Biography

Tyler McQuarrie the driver

Tyler McQuarrie grew up in Walnut Creek, CA and started racing karts when he was 14. He won the Formula Russell Championship and the Russell Triple crown in 1998. Tyler is only the 3rd American to win the World Scholarship in England and with that, He spent 2 years racing formula Vauxhall in Europe. He also spent time racing USF2000, American Le Mans, USAC Sprint cars, NASCAR West Series, D1, World Challenge, Grand Am, and Formula Drift. He has since become one of the top drift drivers in the world and is also one of the best multipurpose drivers in the country. Whether it’s racing, drifting, or time attack, Tyler has the capability to win in either of the above categories.
In 2007, Tyler set two track records in two different Hankook JIC cars. Tyler also finished 4th in two Formula Drift events in two different Hankook JIC cars and qualified first in the Hankook JIC Porsche’s second outing.

In 2008 Tyler won the Redline Time Attack overall national Championship with 3 track records. He also competed in the 25 hours of Thunderhill with the MER Mazda Speed Team, where he captured the pole and finished first in class. He also got the highest finish ever for a Porsche in Formula D with a 2nd in New Jersey.

Tyler joined Team Falken Tire for the 2009 Formula D Championship and out of the six events that Tyler competed in, He made it to the final four four times and of those four, he got on the podium three times. Tyler finished the season 3rd in points and gave Falken Tire their best finish in the Teams history at the time, and all of this was done in his first year with the team and car. Tyler returned to the 25 hours of Thunderhill in 2009 to defend their title. They duplicated their result from the year before with a pole position and a class win after 25 hours of racing.

In 2010, He won the Formula D Las Vegas round. He also made his first appearance in the World Challenge at the Long Beach Grand Prix where he scored the pole position and won the race in a Lotus Cup car. He pulled off the “hat trick” at the 25 hours of Thunderhill and won for the 3rd year in a row.
2011 was another successful year and he gave his Insight Racing team their best finish in Grand Am with a 2nd at VIR. He accomplished every drifter’s dream and won at “the House of Drift” Formula D Irwindale and finished 2nd in the Discount Tire Triple Crown Championship. Tyler achieved the un-thinkable and won the 25 Hours of Thunderhill for the 4th year in a row. He joined the FXMD NSX team in 2011 and broke the Unlimited track record at Super Lap Battle Buttonwillow with an overall win and broke the track record at Infineon Global Time Attack with another overall win.

Tyler has been an Instructor at the Jim Russell Racing School since 1997. He has instructed many drivers including Scott Speed, JR Hildebrand, Bill Elliott, Scott Riggs, Regan Smith, Stanton Barrett, and Luis Diez to name a few. Tyler is a lead instructor for the Audi Sportscar Experience and Robert Herjavec’s driver coach in the Ferrari Challenge. He also does precision / stunt driving for commercials and promotional video’s.
